What this film is

This Is Digital ID is not a short YouTube video. It’s a feature-length documentary designed to meet the standard required for major platforms — clear, accessible, and carefully researched.

The public conversation often sells Digital ID as convenience. This documentary looks beyond surface benefits and examines what follows when identity becomes the infrastructure we all depend on.

Why this matters

This film confronts an uncomfortable reality: a future where access to work, movement, and participation in society can be granted or withdrawn at the click of a button is no longer science fiction — it is being actively built.

Once systems like this are embedded, they can be extremely difficult to reverse. This film exists to make sure the public understands the stakes before the infrastructure is locked in.

On the ground: London protest interview (before Christmas)

A short example of the “street voices” approach in the film — talking to everyday people about awareness and the direction these systems could take.

What your contribution supports

  • Filming costs (travel, locations, equipment, backup media)
  • Post-production (editing, sound, colour, graphics)
  • Fact-checking, legal review, and release deliverables
  • Distribution prep (masters, captions, deliverables for platforms)
  • Marketing assets (trailers, posters, social clips)

This project has been entirely self-funded up to now, and I’m working on it full-time with very little other income.

Logline

As Digital ID is framed as convenience, This Is Digital ID asks the harder question: what happens when identity becomes the infrastructure that controls access to modern life?

Short synopsis

Digital ID is often presented as a frictionless upgrade — easier verification, faster services, and simpler access. But when identity becomes the gatekeeper to work, money, travel, and participation in society, the stakes change. This film explores how these systems are being introduced, what powers they enable, and why safeguards matter before the infrastructure becomes irreversible.

Director’s statement

This project began as a short explainer and grew into a feature-length documentary once the scale of what’s being built became clear. I’m making this film because the public deserves clarity — not slogans — about systems that may soon be required to live a normal life. The aim is not panic. The aim is informed consent, scrutiny, and honest debate before we cross points of no return.

“A future where access to work, movement, and participation in society can be granted or withdrawn at the click of a button is no longer science fiction — it’s being built right now.”
